Breast Augmentation San Francisco (Breast
Enlargement, Breast Enhancement)
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION in San Francisco?
The most common reason for breast augmentation in
San Francisco is a desire
for larger breasts. In general Dr. Cedars does not recommend cosmetic
breast augmentation for women under 18 years of age.
Many women requesting breast augmentation have lost breast volume
after pregnancy and nursing or simply with aging. Another
reason for surgery is if you have one breast noticeably smaller
than the other.
To reduce breast sagging without a breast lift, placing implants can be very effective, but
only if the amount of sagging is not excessive and, of course, if you also want larger breasts.
Whether this approach would work for you can be determined only at an in-office consultation.
WHAT CHANGES CAN BE EXPECTED?
The breasts will be larger. A sagging breast can be lifted The most appropriate size implant
is determined after a physical examination and is a joint decision between you and Dr. Cedars.
Some women want only a very small implant, to restore the breast size and perhaps shape they had
before childbearing. A small percentage of women want very large breasts. This may not be
advisable, because there may not be enough support in the breast tissues, and too large an implant
in these women can cause thinning of the skin or increase the risk of "capsular contracture."
This is a hardening of the breast caused by shrinkage of the normal scar envelope that the body
makes around any implant.
HOW IS BREAST AUGMENTATION IN San Francisco DONE?
The operation is done under general anesthetic as an outpatient. An incision is made in one of
three locations: 1) Around the lower half of the areola, the pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple;
2) in the armpit; 3) over the bottom portion of the breast. A pocket is created over the location of
the breast. The pocket can be immediately deep to the existing breast tissue or else in the next layer
deeper, which is behind the chest wall muscle against the ribcage. If you are very thin, the edges
of the implant can show through the skin, and vertical ripples on the implant may show in some positions.
The implant hides better if it is placed behind the muscle. Usually the sutures are all placed under
the skin, to avoid stitch marks. You will be placed into a surgical bra or wrapped with an Ace bandage.
WHAT KIND OF BREAST IMPLANTS ARE AVAILABLE?
All implants have a silicone shell They are typically filled with saline (salt water).
Silicone-filled implants, which have not been generally available for the last decade, will probably
again become available in the near future and may be appropriate for some women.
AFTERCARE
Narcotics are prescribed for comfort, and women typically take them for about 4 days.
You can return to light activity by one week.
