Dr. Michael Cedars is an American Board of Plastic Surgery*-certified plastic surgeon, practicing his craft for 25 years in the San Francisco-East Bay. He is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, with degrees in both Electrical Engineering and Biology. A native of small-town Texas, Dr. Cedars and all three of his siblings were inspired to attend medical school by their surgeon father.

In 1973 Dr. Cedars moved to California to attend medical school at the University of California, San Francisco. He then moved to Los Angeles for eight additional years of internship and residency in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, culminating in a fellowship in Craniofacial and Microvascular Surgery at UCLA.

Dr. Cedars is married to Dr. Phyllis Cedars, a psychiatrist practicing in the East Bay. They have three children; two are following their parents' footsteps into medicine and one filmmaker.

Dr. Cedars is past president of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Alta Bates Hospital in Berkeley for seven years. Although in private practice, Dr. Cedars has been an active member of the Craniofacial Team at Children's Hospital and Research Center of Oakland for 25 years, treating children with a variety of birth defects of the head and face. He currently serves as co-director of the Craniofacial Team. Additionally, he served as Chief of Plastic Surgery at CHO for eight years.

More than three-quarters of Dr. Cedars patients are adults, who come for cosmetic surgery of the face, breast, and body, laser resurfacing, skin cancer removal, or Botox and filler injections. Many patients hear about Dr. Cedars's terrific care from other patients or the Berkeley Parents Network or are referred by their primary care physician. Others learn about him from his being named one of the "Best Doctors in America" or his being voted to the "Best Doctors San Francisco Magazine," "Best Doctors Oakland Magazine," "Best Doctors Bay Area Consumer Checkbook," or "Best Doctors J Magazine" list.

When not working, Dr. Cedars most loves to spend time with his family. He is an ardent exerciser and avid outdoor sportsman. He also enjoys the theatre and serves on the Board of Trustees of the California Shakespeare Theatre.
