BOTOX® San Francisco Oakland
Botox® is used to smooth facial lines. Not a filler, Botox® is instead a purified form of
botulinum toxin, the poison that causes botulism from poor canning techniques. Botulism is
dangerous and even fatal because the toxin paralyzes muscles and when present throughout the
body can paralyze the breathing muscles.
However, when tiny doses are injected directly into muscles, Botox® paralyzes only the individual
muscle, with effects lasting for 2-5 months, usually 3-4 months. It can therefore be very useful
to temporarily weaken or paralyze the "frown lines" between the eyebrows or the horizontal wrinkles
on the forehead. Other common uses are to decrease the crow's feet by the eyes or to slightly raise
the outer ends of the eyebrows.
It has been shown that in many people treatment of the frown lines can decrease or even eliminate
migraine headaches in the forehead area for several months.
Another good use of Botox® is to decrease sweating in injected areas, so people with unusually
sweaty palms or armpits can obtain relief for months at a time.
